Age 85, of Delray Beach, FL and formerly of Winnetka, IL and Rumson, NJ, passed away on February 26, 2013. Stuart grew up in Essex Fells, NJ, the son of Austin Bartholomew and Anne Rives Sayre. He graduated from Episcopal High School of Alexandria, VA, Dartmouth College and the Tuck School of Business. For many years a management consultant, he joined the family business, American Abrasive Metals Co., in the late 1960's. Stuart was a longtime member of Rumson Country Club, Seabright Lawn Tennis and Cricket Club, Seabright Beach Club, Eastward Ho!, and the St. Andrews Club in Delray Beach. He served as Warden of St. George's by-the-River Episcopal Church in Rumson. Stuart was an avid golfer, bridge and tennis player, a fan of the Brooklyn Dodgers and New York Giants, a lover of Cape Cod, cheap chardonnay and expensive Scotch, and a connoisseur of big band music. Husband of the late Nancy Bond Sayre, Stuart is survived by his children, Stephen B., S. Carter, and Anne E. Sayre; his grandchildren, Abigail, Gordon, William and Lucas Sayre, and his brother Austin Sayre, Jr. In recent years, he found great happiness in his loving relationship with Ann (Boo) Sutton, with whom he lived in Florida. A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 8, 2013, 11:00 AM at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 188 S. Swinton Ave., Delray Beach, FL and in Rumson, NJ at a future date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the St. George's by-the-River Memorial Fund, 7 Lincoln Ave., Rumson, NJ 07760. Lorne & Sons Funeral Home, Delray Beach in charge of arrangements.
