CLAY, Gladys Irene

Gladys Irene Clay 92 passed peacefully Sunday January 19, 2014 at Courtyard Gardens Rehabilitation Facility just prior to her 93rd birthday. Gladys was born January 28, 1921 in Pittsburgh, PA. That is where she met and married Valentine O Clay. They were married for 66 years. While Val was serving in the military they were stationed in Myrtle Beach S. Carolina during WWII then in Goose Bay Labrador during the Korean Conflict. After military service they returned to the Pittsburgh area. Gladys worked for the Kiski Area School District and became Union Secretary. She was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star for 60+ years most recently in the Jupiter Chapter. In 1986 they left Apollo, PA a suburb of Pittsburgh, and moved to Sebring, FL. After Valentine's passing Gladys came to live in Jupiter with her son. She is survived by her only son George Clay and his wife Lois three granddaughters Jessica, Sarah and Melissa Clay. Gladys is preceded in death by her husband Valentine and siblings Willard, Olive and Vivien. A memorial service to honor Gladys will be held at Taylor and Modeen Funeral Home at 12:00 noon Saturday, February 1, 2014.
