At age 87, Dr. Joseph Applebaum's life peacefully ended on March 25, 2013. He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Moondean Applebaum, of Palm Beach Gardens. He was the loving father of Jolynn Applebaum, San Francisco, CA, Jonathan Applebaum, Galax, VA, Lauren (Todd) Tyson, Atlanta, GA and Michael (Jennifer) Applebaum, Huntsville, AL. He was the proud grandfather of David Applebaum, Brooke and Olivia Tyson, and Katie Applebaum. Also surviving is his sister, Betty Jean Himeles of Palm Beach, FL. Dr. Applebaum was born in Ridgely, MD, son of Jacob and Fannye Applebaum. He attended Princeton University and University of Maryland Dental School. He served in the Navy during WWII and then served in the United States Public Health Service (Bureau of Indian Affairs - Arizona) as a Senior Assistant Dental Surgeon and Area Dental Director. He practiced dentistry in Wheaton, MD, from 1952-1981. He was a member of SMDS, MSDS, ADA and the Academy of General Dentistry. He served as an editor and executive of Alpha Omega Dental Fraternity. While practicing in Montgomery County, MD, he was fully involved with the Indigent Childcare Program, the Crippled Children's Program, and the Hebrew Home for the Aged, and was Chairman of the Dental Assistants' Advisory Committee for Montgomery Community College. He lived his long life offering much joy and love, great integrity, and a witty sense of humor, thoroughly enriching the lives of his family. The incredible bond, love and devotion shared between Joseph and Moondean has been an inspiration to their children. The family will hold a private burial at sea. Donations may be made to a .
