Melanie Iteld BARNUM

BARNUM, Melanie Iteld

Melanie Iteld Barnum, age 61, passed away December 12th. Melanie was born in New York City and moved to Miami with her family when she was five. A graduate of Miami Coral Park Senior High (class of 1970), she attended the Newcomb College of Tulane University in New Orleans and graduated in 1974. After graduation, Melanie worked as a court reporter in Miami, where she met her husband, Chuck, and made their first home, a boat, on the water in Coconut Grove. After getting married, Chuck and Melanie sailed together for many years, eventually stopping for awhile in Northern California, where they lived in the Sierra foothills mining town of Jackson for four years before making their way back east to West Palm Beach, where they have lived for the past two decades. For most of those years, Melanie and Chuck operated MAC Fabrics, a family-owned business and Clematis Street fixture since 1959, and oversaw its expansion to three locations in Palm Beach County. Melanie's passions were gardening, decorating, home renovation, travel, and adventure. Melanie always had a love for her Italian Greyhounds and all of her friends. Melanie is survived by her husband, Charles (Chuck) Barnum; her brother Dr. Bruce Iteld and his wife, Sandra; her nephew, Evan; and her nieces, Lauren, Marissa, Colette and Lily. She was loved and will be dearly missed by all. Donations in Melanie's memory can be made to Hospice of Palm Beach County, who took wonderful care of Melanie in her time of need: Hospice of Palm Beach County Foundation, 5300 East Avenue, West Palm Beach, FL 33407.
