Patricia HORTON Obituary

HORTON, Patricia Harrison

Of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, passed away on Monday, December 3, 2012 at home. Born in Mount Vernon, NY, on November 5 1928, she was the daughter of George William Harrison and Kathryn Lockwood. Pat grew up in Great Neck and graduated from Bayside High School in 1947. In December of 1947, Pat married the love of her life, Donald Bailey Horton, at the 7th Regiment Armory in New York City. As a new bride she moved to Washington, DC and worked for B. Altman while Don finished his studies at Georgetown. When Don was recalled for the war in Korea in 1951, Pat became a Navy wife with two little boys who moved to various locations including Key West, FL, and Marblehead, MA. When Don returned, Pat set up home in Levittown and then Garden City, NY where she was very active in community volunteerism. She served as President of American Cancer Society?s Garden City Unit in 1972 and 1973 and remained on the Board of Directors for years. She also served as president of the Garden City League of Mercy Hospital and chaired numerous events for the League over the years. In 1991, Pat and Don retired to Palm Beach Gardens and spent years filled with sun and fun, friends and family. Her home was party central as celebration was always of the utmost importance and Pat raised it to a science. She was predeceased by her husband, Don in 2008 and is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Jeffrey and Maryann of Sarasota, FL and Don and Jane of Westport, CT. She was also the proud grandmother of Randolph and his wife Jodi Ahnmark, Brittan and her husband, Chase Dunlap, Victoria and Brandon. She was the great-grandmother of Jack Mason Horton. Pat will be remembered for her passionate love of life and her definitive sense of style. All who crossed her path touched her.
