Robert Louis Becker, Jr. died peacefully on April 15, 2013 in Delray Beach, FL at the age of 87. Born in 1925 to the late Marion Jaynes Becker and Robert L. Becker in Milwaukee, he spent his early childhood in Chicago and moved to Baltimore in 1938. Upon graduation from Baltimore City College High School in 1943, he joined the V-12 Navy College Training program for officers, attended Franklin and Marshall College and the University of Pennsylvania. Bob earned an engineering degree and a commission as an ensign in the Navy. He served in World War II in the Pacific on the destroyer U.S.S. Walke. After the war he was discharged as a lieutenant j.g. Bob was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity and graduated from Cornell Law School in 1948. He joined the law firm of Kirkpatrick, Pomeroy, Lockhart & Johnson (K&L Gates) in Pittsburgh in 1949 as an associate and was subsequently made partner. He spent his entire career with the firm and was pre-eminent in the areas of securities and transactional law. At the time of his death, Bob was the longest serving partner in the Pittsburgh office. He was a member of the Allegheny County Bar Association, the Pennsylvania Bar Association and the American Law Institute. Bob served on the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh Board of Trustees from 1972-1995, and was chairman from 1986-1991. A longtime member of the Third Presbyterian Church, he taught Sunday school and served on the Session for many years. He also served on the Ellis School Board of Trustees and was particularly committed to Baltimore City College High School for which he established a scholarship fund to assist graduates at the beginning of their college careers. He and his wife Annette spent the last several winters in Gulf Stream, FL where he volunteered at the Hanley Center, working in a seniors program. Bob had been a friend of Bill W. since April 17, 1995. An insatiable reader, Bob was a lifelong student of history and was particularly fascinated by the Civil War era. He was an avid tennis player, golfer and a loyal fan of the Pirates, Steelers, and Penguins. Bob also loved the sea and was passionate about his time spent in Weekapaug, RI, where he belonged to the Weekapaug Yacht Club, Tennis Club and Golf Club. He was a member of the Duquesne Club, The Pittsburgh Golf Club, the St. Andrew's Club of Delray Beach, The Cornell Club of New York City, and former member of the Rolling Rock Club. Bob is survived by his wife of thirty-two years, Annette Willock; his three children from a previous marriage to Patricia M. Osborne: Anne (David) Hulley of Northampton, MA, Emily Naunheim of San Mateo, CA, and Robert L. Becker, III of Honolulu, HI; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, as well as his two sisters, Anne (Richard) Egbert of Greenwich, CT and Marnie (Barton) Miller of Lee, MA. A memorial service will be held at Third Presbyterian Church, 5701 Fifth Avenue, Pittsburgh at 11am, Friday, April 26th.
