HANSEN, James B.

58, of West Palm Beach, passed away on Monday August 12, 2013 in Naples, FL. Born in Kansas City, MO on April 22, 1955, Jim is survived by his sister, Barbara Hansen Smith of Charlottesville, VA and his four nieces, Kelly Hanan of Darien, CT, Elizabeth Smith of Santa Barbara, CA, Katherine Smith of New York, NY and Caroline Smith of Oxford, MS. Jim grew up in Summit, NJ and Chatham, MA and received a degree in Environmental Design from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. He settled in West Palm Beach, FL where in 1985 he established Hansen Landscaping and Design, a successful and well-known local landscape design firm. Jim had profound respect and affection for his crew, always speaking highly of their hard work and loyalty. A beloved member of the community, Jim was known for spreading joy and laughter to those he met along the way. His creative spirit, warm smile and gregarious personality drew people to him and brought joy to friends and strangers alike. Jim's passion for the water traveled with him from Cape Cod to Florida where he spent sunny days on his boat or paddleboard on the intercoastal with friends and his much loved golden retriever, Remy. Family and friends will always remember Jim/Jimbo/Hunts/Jimmy/Uncle Jim/Yimmy for his smile, humor, positive energy and loving spirit. Memorial services will be held on September 14, 2013 in the Palm Beach area, details to be determined.
