Dorothy CHALEK

CHALEK, Dorothy

Dorothy Chalek, Grandma Extraordinaire, died peacefully on September 22, 2013 in Boynton Beach, FL, after a five year battle with ovarian cancer. She won the first four by taking several trips with her family, highlighted by a trip to San Francisco with her grandchildren Adam and Jason, and a Caribbean cruise with her entire family. She was 79 years old and is survived by adoring husband Joel of 56 years, and son Matt. Dotty spent her time mastering the New York Times Crossword Puzzle, playing canasta and mah jongg with her friends from Platina, knitting blankets for hospitalized children, and reading fiction books. She loved the arts - from Broadway shows to foreign films to opera. She was a nosh aficionado. What joy she would get from a small piece of Dove chocolate (even up to her final day), an almond biscotti, a chocolate covered pretzel, or some Enstrom's toffee from Colorado. She would play Scrabble late into the evenings with Matt and daughter-in-law Carmen. During those days, G-Ma focused her energy on having fun with Adam and Jason, whether it be at the beach, cooking their favorite foods, buying their favorite snacks, laughing uncontrollably, or slipping each a box of Tic Tacs. Selfless forever, Dorothy requested that if donations were offered, they should be made to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund at http://www.ocrf.org.
