Belovedly known as ?Pop? went home to be with the Lord on December 4, 2012 following a chronic illness. Pop was born on May 7, 1935 in Harlan County, Kentucky to his proud parents, Mr. Albert Lee Dykes, Sr. and Mrs. Beulah (nee Bone) Dykes. Albert came to Florida in 1958 from Cincinnati, Ohio after serving his country in the United States Air Force as an honorably discharged veteran. He then began a new career working with the South Florida Water Management District for thirty years and retired as the Director of Building Services. Albert loved vacationing in the Blue Ridge Mountains and going to Disney World, but most of all spending his time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed running the roads with ?Mimi?. One of Albert?s greatest joys was worshipping his ?Lord and Saviour? at Trinity Church International in Lake Worth, Florida. He will be forever loved by his wife of fifty three years, Thyra A. ?Mimi? Dykes; his two children, Linda Ventry and her husband, Kyle of Wellington, FL, Lynn Wells and her husband, David of Wellington, FL; his sister, Alta Charlene Dykes-Ingram of Tampa, FL; his brother-in-law, Ira Mock of West Palm Beach, FL; and his two sisters-in-law, Marie Mock of West Palm Beach, FL and Zoe Mock of Lexington, S.C.; his six grandchildren, ?KJ? Ventry, Sami Ventry, ?TJ? Dykes, Dusty Ventry, Haley Wells, and David Wells III; his two honorary granddaughters, Emily Huspek and Annie Huspek. Pop was preceded in death by his late son, Travis Mark Dykes on August 19, 2006. Family and friends will gather at the Mizell-Faville-Zern Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 6411 Parker Avenue, West Palm Beach, FL 33405, (561) 833-4061 to celebrate the life of Albert Lee Dykes, Jr. ?Pop? on Monday, December 10, 2012 at 12:00 PM with Pastor Billy Burns providing Christian ?Words of Praise?. Interment and Military Honors will follow in the South Florida VA National Cemetery, 6501 South State Road 7, Lake Worth, FL 33449, (561) 649-6489.
