Alice Retallick O'BRIEN Obituary
O'BRIEN, Alice Retallick

Alice Retallick O'Brien of Palm Beach Gardens, FL and Burlington, VT passed away on April 4, 2014. Alice was born May 16, 1925 in Litchfield, CT. She was the daughter of Frank and Lillian Retallick. Alice May Retallick and William Hayes O'Brien were married on the 28th of September, 1947 in Litchfield, CT. Moving to Burlington, VT in 1948 to help a relative in business. Alice and her husband, Bill, over the course of 40 years expanded the business through out the state. Their reputation for outstanding service, integrity and concern for others helped many of their employees to become successful on their own. Alice found pleasure in Americana Antiques, as she traveled throughout New England in the late 50's and 60's acquiring an extensive collection. She co-chaired along with friend Mary Zates the St. Mike's Antique Show for over a decade which became popular with many New England dealers. Alice had a remarkable eye for fashion and nature as reflected in her appearance and her love for gardening. A fantastic day for Alice included a visit to Bloomingdales. Norstrom's and Saks Fifth Avenue, where she made many friends. Her gardening abilities were unsurpassed. With the strong arms of her close friend, Pete, she created gardens to envy. Wherever Alice resided she made lifelong friends. Moving from Vermont to Ocean Trails in 1987, Frenchman's Creek in 1990, Admiral's Cove in 1996 and The Isles in 2002. Alice's fondest memories were the times she shared with friends. Special thanks to Marilyn as a close friend and dinner companion. Cathy for the great times shopping. Joe for his friendship and wine tasting abilities, Joann and the many times spent, Pete and Edie for their love and support, Maurice and Joell as great neighbors and the trip to Canada, Jim and Jerry for the entertaining stories regarding horse training. Katie and Bob entertaining at Dan and Barbie's home, Mike and Linda with their annual Christmas brunch, Joe and Diane sharing their travel adventures, Drew and Jimmy exchanging thoughts on interior design and Susan giving her valuable time in making her comfortable. Special thanks to Horizon Care Services, caregivers Desi and Natilie and Dr. Catherine Drourr. It would be impossible to name everyone that Alice would like to thank for enriching her life. Alice was predeceased by her husband of forty-five years, William Hayes O'Brien. She is survived by her sons, William Hayes O'Brien, Jr. and his long time companion, Susan Anger, and Timothy Patrick O'Brien. Three grandchildren, John Thomas O'Brien, Michael James O'Brien and Grace Maria O'Brien. A celebration of Alice's life will be held from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Sunday April 13, 2014 at William H. O'Brien, 134 Euphrates Circle, Palm Beach Gardens, FL.
