KRASNE D.D.S., F.I.C.D., Alvin L.

Passed away on January 15, 2013 in Boynton Beach, FL. Alvin was a graduate of St. Louis University Dental College, class of 1946. While on active duty in World War II he entered dental school and with the accelerated wartime schedule was graduated at the age of 22. Upon graduation, he briefly practiced in East Orange, NJ and was accepted as a staff extern in oral surgery and anesthesia at Greenpoint Hospital in Brooklyn, NY. He served there for four years until the Korean War and was recalled as a dental officer, appointed Captain and stationed in the USAF 3204th Medical Group as Base Deputy Dental Surgeon at Eglin Air Force Base in Pensacola, FL. He remained in Florida and practiced in North Miami for over forty years. He was an original staffer of the Mt. Sinai Hospital Dental Clinic on Miami Beach whose pioneer years were dispensed at the old Nautilus Hotel. He served for decades as attending dentist which included three years as Chairman of the Removeable Prosthetic department. He was very active in local, state, and national dental organizations and presided over several. In his retirement years he retained is professional connections with activity in the Society of Retired Dentists and the Academy of Dental History. He founded, contributed and administered the Dental Museum at Nova Southeastern University, School of Dental Medicine. His avocation included collecting and dealing with historical and significant memorabilia which gave him the opportunity of traveling throughout the Eastern and Southern United States. Alvin is survived by his loving wife and partner of 62 years, Helen; three children, Kenneth, Diane (Denise) and Mitchell (Fran) and grandchildren, Alexander, Benjamin, Katharine, Stacey, Erica and Noah. He is also survived by his brother, Dr. B. Lawrence (Honey) of North Miami Beach.
