Fr. Obin, 74, Pastor of St. Francis of Assisi Parish, Riviera Beach, died Wednesday morning, January 16, 2013, after a lengthy illness. Fr. Art., as he was known, was a Missionary Oblate Priest for forty-nine years, and a selfless servant of the Lord. He was born in Nashua, New Hampshire on April 2, 1938, a son of the late Arthur and Olive (nee Renaud) Obin, and one of four children. Fr. Obin attended St. Joseph Seminary High School in Bucksport, ME, and the Oblate colleges in Bar Harbor, ME and Natick, MA. He entered Our Lady of Grace Novitiate, Colebrook, NH, in August of 1957, professing his first vows August 2, 1958, and perpetual vow September 8, 1962. His Ordination to the priesthood took place on January 19, 1964, in Notre Dame de Lourdes Church, Lowell, MA, with Most Reverend Louis Colligan, OMI, officiating. He was assigned to the Northern U.S. Province of the Missionary Oblates and his first assignment in 1964 was chaplain for the Boy Scouts of America, Camp Carpenter, in New Hampshire. He served in several parishes: St. Charles Parish. Washington, DC, from 1964-1965, pastoral year; Ste. Jeanne d? Arc Parish, Lowell MA, as parochial vicar from 1966-1974; Ste. Jean-Baptiste Parish, Lowell, MA, as Pastor and Superior from 1980-1990; St. Mary Parish, Claremont, NH, as Pastor, from 1900-1997; St. Francis of Assisi Parish, Riviera Beach, as Pastor from 2002-2013. Fr. Obin also served in retreat houses. He was Assistant Director at Ephpheta Retreat House, Manville, RI in 1965, then joined the retreat staff at Immaculate Retreat House, Willimantic, CT in 1966. He was on staff at St. Joseph the Worker Shrine in downtown Lowell, MA from 1975-1980, as counselor in conjunction with a chaplaincy at the Franco-American School. While in Lowell, Fr. Obin served as a member of the Archdiocesan Priest Senate from 1980-1993. From July of 1992 to February 1999, he served on the provincial council of the Northern U.S. Province, first as a councillor, then vicar provincial. In October of 1997, he became the Provincial Superior of the Northern U.S. Province with residence at the provincial house in Hudson, NH. When all U.S. provinces merged into one in February 1999, he became the first Area Superior of the newly formed Northeast Area and served until February 2002. During this time, he was on the Council of Priests for the Diocese of Manchester, NH for a one year term. He also served on the Advisory Board of the Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows in Belleville, IL. It was in July of 2002 that Fr. Obin went to St. Francis of Assisi Parish, Riviera Beach, his present and final assignment. He was the Superior of the West Palm Beach District from August 2004 to December 2008. Beside his Oblate family, Fr. Obin is survived by two brothers, Richard Obin of Nashua, NH, Lionel Obin of France; one sister, Muriel Gelinas, and her husband, Jean, of Merrimack, NH, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one sister-in-law, Janice (nee Chartier) Obin, wife of Richard. Fr. Obin will lie in state at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Avenue ?E? and West 20th Street, Riviera Beach, on Sunday, January 20, 2013. Reception of the public will be from 4:00 until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM Holy Office of the Dead Prayer Service. The Funeral Mass will be con-celebrated at 11:00 AM Monday, January 21, 2013, in the church, with Most Reverend Gerald M. Barbarito, D.D., Bishop of the Diocese of Palm Beach, presiding. Further Services will take place in Tewksbury, MA, with interment in St. Joseph Cemetery, Chelmsford, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations in Fr.
