O'CONNELL, Jr., Charles F.

Charles F. O'Connell, Jr., of Greenacres, FL, passed away October 19, 2013. He was 86 years old. Born in Washington, DC he moved to Palm Beach in 1984 after the passing of his wife of 37 years, Nancy Hodge O'Connell Upon graduation from Central High School in Washington, DC he enlisted in the US Navy. After his tour of duty he used his GI Bill to attend Marquette University. Upon graduation he returned to Washington, DC to manage his family's business. These businesses included concession stands at area sporting/entertainment events at Turners Arena and Griffith Stadium as well as an Independent Insurance Agency founded in 1927. Among his many insurance clients were the Washington Senators and the Minnesota Twins baseball teams. In 1950 he received a direct commission as an Ensign in the US Navy Reserves, retiring 33 years later as a Captain. Charlie enjoyed family vacations and family time together, travel, golf, hunting and fishing and most of all his collection of friends from all walks of life. He was a "Life Member" and supporter of too many Service Clubs to mention. He is survived by his dear companion of many years, Maxine Rhodes; sons, Daniel and Michael; daughter, Patricia; five grandchildren, Carrie, Colleen, Katie, Ryan, Jaclyn and seven great-grandchildren, Lyla, Abigail, Robert, Liam, Judah, Daniel and Isaac. Family and friends will be holding a Remembrance Celebration of "Charlie" at Duffy's Sports Grill, 721 Village Blvd., West Palm Beach, FL, Thursday November 14 at 3:30 PM to 6:30 PM.
