CHARLES RUSSELL MASSEY Charles Russell Massey, Ph. D., Boynton Beach resident, passed away peacefully at his home on March 23, 2012. Born in Indianapolis, IN on June 5, 1947 and raised in Lantana, Charles served in the United States Army as second lieutenant. He received his doctorate in criminology from Florida State University and recently retired after 32 years as Associate Professor of Criminal Justice at Florida Atlantic University. During his tenure, he was also department chair and founded the New Pines Project established to provide crime prevention programs for at-risk youths. Charles was the eldest of six children born to Maxine and Bud Massey. For 25 years, he was the beloved husband of Cara Gallo Massey and proud father of Dylan Charles Massey. Charles will be forever remembered by his devoted sisters, Mary Massey Howarth and Helen Massey Norman. He is also remembered by loving family members: Bianca and Don Pucci; Dina and Ron Tarro; Al and Hisayo Gallo, Michael Norman; Rick Howarth, Debbie and Dino Gallo; Cecilia Gallo and several nieces and nephews. He is missed by his faithful dog, Pickles, and countless other friends, family and students who were blessed to have been a part of his life. Charles had a love of Islamorada, the ocean, nature, fishing, reading and took a proud interest in Dylan's baseball success from little league to The University of Chicago. Charles, although greatly missed, will always be found in the beauty of the setting sun, the scent of a warm gulf breeze, and the sound of the waves slapping against the hull... Friends and family are invited to attend a celebration of Charles' life on Tuesday, March 27, 2012, 6:30 PM, Unity of Delray Beach, 101 NW 22 Street, Delray Beach, FL 33444.
