Eugene Harrison was born on December 23, 1938 to Lela Mae Thornton and Eddie James Harrison. Eugene had eight siblings whom he loved dearly. At an early age, he worked in the cane fields in Lake Harbor and followed the migrant stream from Florida to New Jersey and New York picking beans, peaches, and apples, pulling onions and corn, and packing tomatoes. After he graduated from Lake Shore High School, he served in the United States Army for four years. Within twenty-two months of joining the service, he obtained a rank of Sergeant and served in Germany as a member of the military police. In 1963, Eugene met and married the love of his life, Josephine Williamson. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Building and Construction from Tennessee State University, a Master's Degree in Guidance and Counseling and Certification in Administration and Supervision from FAU. Eugene pursued a 41 year career in his true calling - education. He worked in the classrooms of Lake Shore High School and the administrative offices of Broward County's migrant education program. Ultimately, he retired as an Assistant Principal at Dillard High School in Ft. Lauderdale in 2008. Eugene positively impacted his community through his church, Payne Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church, where he served as a member of the trustee board and taught the adult Sunday school class. He also served the community through Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. by raising scholarship money for students and facilitating other outreach activities within the community. He is survived by Josephine Williamson Harrison, his loving wife of almost 50 years whom he considered his "good and perfect gift" in life; his three children: Attorney Malcolm Eugene Harrison, Michelle Harrison Williams (married to Edward Williams), and Attorney Mark Eric Harrison (married to Dr. Kathleen McDavid Harrison); and four granddaughters, Graysen and Rian Williams and Audra and Sloan Harrison. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Palm Beach County. The wake will be held at Payne Chapel, 801 9th Street, West Palm Beach, Florida 33401, on May 3, 2013 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Funeral services will also be held at Payne Chapel on Saturday, May 4, 2013 at 1:30 PM. Interment to follow at Royal Palm Memorial Gardens.
