FIZELL, George W.

George W. Fizell, 92, passed away peacefully on February 24, 2014 at his home in Palm Beach Gardens. George was born in Davis, CA, but moved to Lantana in 1923. He attended Lake Worth High School where he was a star half back. He served in World War II as a Boatswain's Mate First Class, and retired from the Naval Reserve as a BMCS with 27 years of service. Capt. Fizell worked as a Harbor Pilot at the Port of Palm Beach for 42 years, and was one of the first pilots appointed by the Governor to serve on the State Board of Pilot Commissioners. George is preceded in death by his wife, Wilma Jean, and leaves behind his daughter, Charlotte Wilson; son, George A. Fizell and wife, Sandi; and daughter, Claudia Chatham and husband, Greg. He will also be missed by grandson, Shane Wilson and wife Michelle; grandson, Tyson McLaughlin and wife Erin; granddaughter, Meghan Crumm and husband Kevin; and a great-grandson, Dashiell Wilson. He will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery alongside his wife, Wilma Jean. Remembrances can be made to Hospice of Palm Beach County.
