HERTHA CAREY CODEY 'Tootsie' On Sunday April 25, 2010, Hertha Carey Codey of Lake Worth, FL, passed away unexpectedly following an accident in Jupiter, FL. The daughter of William Carey and Hertha Birner Carey, she was born in New York City on January 18, 1945 and grew up in Allendale, NJ. An active resident of Allendale for over 40 years, she loved singing and was part of several bands that performed throughout Northern New Jersey. Tootsie moved to Jupiter, FL in 1988 where she started her own management consulting business and developed an innovative program called 'The Gender Gap Agenda' which explored how gender and culture affect performance in the workplace. In 2002 Tootsie joined Washington Mutual Bank as Supervisor of Training and Leadership Development for the South Florida Area before retiring last year. Tootsie is survived by her children; seven grandchildren; her father, William R. Carey, Sr.; and her brothers, William (Max) Carey, Jr., Christopher Carey, and Michael Carey. Every moment with Tootsie was memorable. She constantly reminded and encouraged us to live our lives with passion, humor, and love. She will be greatly missed. I just discovered that my beautiful gem is no longer in the physical world. We laughed, we shared very deep thoughts, and she courageously taught me so many life lessons. I always felt accepted and respected, even when I messed things up.
Carey, no one can ever extinguish your bright light! Love, Anita

This world has lost a wonderful person. A great friend, always caring, upbeat and vivacious. A great voice used not only for entertaining but for speaking out on community causes she cared about. We will treasure all the pleasurable memories of being in her presence. Love, Jeanette & Skip Hartzell (Lake Worth, Fl)
