CHONOLES, Jack R.

Mr. Jack R. Chonoles passed away on the 19th of November, 2013. Jack leaves behind a loving wife, Dorothy, of almost 60 years. He also leaves behind his children, Stephen Chonoles, Cathy Renz and Andrew Chonoles. He dearly loved his entire family, which included his grandson, Akiba, his son-in-law, George Renz and granddaughters, Rachel and Miriam, as well as his daughter-in-law, Laura Chonoles and grandsons, Tyler and Oliver. Jack was a decorated war veteran with a Purple Heart and a marksmanship medal. Most recently, the French government honored him for outstanding bravery during World War II. Jack was a graduate of Stuyvesant High School and the City College of New York. He began a career with Lerner Shops in Albany in the early 1950s and worked his way up to District Manager of 17 stores in the southern U.S. Following this, he went to work for the New York State Labor Department in Albany where he worked his way up to Assistant Director of Affirmative Action. Upon retirement, Jack and Dorothy moved to Delray Beach, FL, where they resided for 25 years. Jack enjoyed the sunshine, golf, and occasional gambling with his wife. He was a devoted reader of The New Yorker magazine and looked forward to its arrival every week for almost 30 years. The world was a better place with Jack in it.
