Joseph Ehrhart

In Memoriam Condolences

Joseph Ehrhart died in a house fire Sunday morning, but not before alerting his roommates to the danger, his mother said Monday. Authorities say those roommates were rescued from the house's second-floor balcony.

Ehrhart, who was 37, saved many more people as an organ donor, and that's what his mother, tearful and grieving, is hanging on to.

"He had a very strong heart. I guess he'll live on forever in other people, I just won't be able to hold him ever again," Geri Ehrhart said Monday.

The cause of the fire that started before dawn at 4741 Holly Lake Dr. remains under investigation, said Palm Beach County Fire Rescue spokesman Capt. Albert Borroto. The identities of his roommates, who were taken to the hospital, have not been released.

The neighborhood sits west of Military Trail and north of Melaleuca Lane in suburban Lake Worth.
