formerly of Lake Worth and Boca Raton, passed away Nov. 16 in Plano, Texas. She was 83. An artist and former small business owner and real estate broker, Joyce?s legacy was her sense of humor, wonder and adventure. Born in Cedar Bayou, Texas on Nov. 4, 1929, the former Joyce Johnson married Freddie J. Ocker. They made a home in Baytown, Texas, and raised two daughters. Joyce?s career included work as an executive secretary; proprietor and owner of Crafts by Joyce, a shop specializing in her custom needlecraft designs; and a real estate agent and Coldwell-Banker broker. In 1998, she moved to Lake Worth to be closer to daughter Lisa. The move fostered Joyce?s creativity and helped broaden her large circle of friends. In 2007, Joyce and Lisa moved back to Texas to be closer to her daughter Lana in Carrollton, a suburb of Dallas. Joyce is survived by daughters Lisa and Lana Ocker and Lana?s husband, Steve Moody, all of Carrollton; sister Lea Shehee of Chestertown, Md.; niece Cynthia Burkert and her husband, Jack Burkert, of Betterton, Md.; and Cynthia?s adult children, Drew Thiemann of Chestertown, and Ellen Thiemann Cambé of Brooklyn, N.Y. She is preceded in death by parents Mavis and I.L. Johnson of Baytown, former husband Freddie J. Ocker of Baytown, and nephew Tom Horn of Austin. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 23, at the Alexander Chapel at Cedar Bayou Grace United Methodist Church in Baytown.
