Family-Placed Obituary

JUDITH MANN Of Palm Beach Gardens, passed away today, August 31, 2012, at the age of 69 after a yearlong battle with cancer. Born August 25, 1943 in Brooklyn, NY, Judith grew up in Newark and Colonia, NJ with her immediate and extended family. This included her brother, David Peckerman and her aunt, Elsa Cook, both of whom survive her. During her upbringing, Judith excelled academically and earned a BA from Rutgers University's Douglass College in both English and Secondary Education. She went on to a career in education in which she touched the hearts of countless students and families with her passionate, caring and genuine nature. One of Judith's proudest achievements was the creation of the Gifted and Talented program at South Orange Middle School, which enabled outstanding students to showcase their academic abilities. Judith relocated to Florida in 1985 and worked as a private tutor and later for the Palm Beach County and Jupiter Library System where she gained a loyal following. She was a voracious reader and passionate about the arts, specifically modern dance, ballet and music that made her move. Judith believed strongly in equal rights and was a feminist from an early age. Her sincerity, strength of character and gentle understanding affected many people. She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Mann; son, Marc Hyman; cousin, Ursula Peckerman and other family and friends whom she loved dearly. Judith's family, friends and library book club members who wish to celebrate a life well lived are invited to Judith's home on Saturday, September 1 2012 from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Donations in respect of Judith's lifelong battle with diabetes may be made to The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
