DeWOODY, Kathleen Frances

Kathleen Frances DeWoody, 74, of Palm Beach Gardens, FL and Highlands, NC died peacefully at home on November 10, 2013 surrounded by her family. Born in St. Petersburg, FL on December 19, 1938 to Francis Ruhlin and Kathleen Ruhlin (O'Hare) she was the youngest of four children. Kathleen moved to Palm Beach County in 1956 to attend St. Mary's School of Nursing, graduating in 1959. As a registered nurse, Kathleen worked in the operating room at St. Mary's Hospital in West Palm Beach. She later attended Palm Beach Junior College, graduating as Valedictorian of the Class of 1966, and was a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. Kathleen was an active volunteer in many local charities. She was the Past President of the South Florida Science Museum Guild; a member of the Junior League of the Palm Beaches for many years where she was involved with several key projects; and was a member of the St. Edward's Guild in Palm Beach. Kathleen is a sustaining member of the Junior League of the Palm Beaches, and a member of the PGA National Members Club. Kathleen was a parishioner at the Cathedral of St. Ignatius Loyola in FL and Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic Church in N.C. One of Kathleen's true loves in life was the game of bridge. She was an avid bridge player and achieved recognition as a Bronze Life Master with the ACBL. Kathleen was predeceased in October of 2011 by her husband of 51 years, Donald Kent DeWoody, Sr. She is survived by her son, Donald K. DeWoody, Jr. and his wife Elizabeth of West Palm Beach; her daughter, Colleen M. Bracci and her husband, Michael of Jupiter, FL; four grandsons, Donald Kent DeWoody, III, Casey DeWoody, Griffin Bracci, and Hunter Bracci; her three brothers, Charles L. Ruhlin of Hampton, VA, William B. Ruhlin (Joan) of Katy, TX, and John J. Ruhlin (Carol) of St. Petersburg, FL; and many nieces and nephews. A Memorial Wake Service will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, November 15, 2013 at Quattlebaum Funeral Home, 1201 S. Olive Avenue, West Palm Beach, FL 33401, with Rev. Brian King, officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday beginning at 4:30 p.m. and also during a reception immediately following the Service. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at the Cathedral of St. Ignatius Loyola, 9999 North Military Trail, Palm Beach Gardens, FL 33410, with Rev. Thomas Barrett, Pastor officiating. Further services and interment at Riverside Memorial Park in Tequesta will be held privately.
