SMITH, Mary Evelyn Graham Fownes

Mary Evelyn Graham Fownes Smith, matriarch of her family went peacefully home to the lord in the early morning, April 24, 2014. Born October 31st, 1914, Mary was one of ten children born to John and Grace Graham of Ellsworth, Maine. At the age of 7, Mary's mother having passed away, was adopted by Newton and Elvina Fownes of Hamden Highlands, Maine. She enjoyed a kind loving stable life with this family. Still a teenage girl, Mary graduated from hairdressing school in the area, which ultimately became her lifetime passion. Having married, birthing two little girls, Mary became eager to find and join some of her Graham family siblings who resided in southern Florida. In 1947 she moved there and was successful in finding family, enjoying a sister Lillian Meyer and her brother Fred Graham for the remainder of their lives. For many years Mary and her husband Carleton E. Smith, were respected business owners in Boynton Beach, Florida. Carleton owned and operated The Paint Center on Ocean Boulevard. Mary owned and operated My Beauty Salon on Boynton Beach Boulevard. She was always a strong, caring, giving influence to family, neighbors and friends. After the death of her husband, Carleton, Mary and her oldest daughter chose a lovely villa in an area of Boynton Beach called Highpoint, enjoying a special quality of life there. Over four years ago, needing daily assistance, Mary moved to Atlantis Assisted Living in Lantana Florida. She was loved and cared for there by all staff, hospice, granddaughter Diana Bullock, her lifelong companion, Diana's husband Joseph (Joe), and grandsons Harry and Kevin Jones. Our entire family was in grandmas heart, she was in ours. Preceeding in death was husband, Carleton E. Smith, and dearly loved daughter, Norma Scott of Tallahassee, Florida.
