Richard REMSEN Obituary
Richard Remsen Jr passed away peacefully at his home on Jupiter Island, FL on February 18, 2017. Rich was born March 25, 1920 in Mineola, NY and grew up in Garden City, NY with parents Gladys (Story) and Richard, and brothers William (1921-1953) and Ted.
He graduated from The Choate School and Dartmouth College, and served as an officer in the U.S. Navy from 1942-1945. He married Anne Powell in September, 1954 and had children Rick, Jay, and Lita. He worked for Carlisle DeCoppet, a New York Stock Exchange odd-lot broker, until retirement in 1972. Rich won the 1952 U.S. Squash Doubles Championship with Germain Glidden. He won the Anderson Memorial Golf tournament in 1965, the North & South Senior Golf Championship in 1981, and the World Super Senior Golf Championship in 1991. The United States Senior Golf Association provided many years of joy for both Rich and Andy, making lifelong friends and attending countless events, including Rich winning the USSGA Annual Championship in 1987.
Rich was preceded in death by his beloved Andy in 2007, and is survived by his brother Ted (Laura), and his three children Rick (Carol), Jay (Liz), and Lita (Jim) and six grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30AM March 18 at Christ Memorial Chapel, 52 South Beach Road, Jupiter Island.
