Rita Mannes DORSEN Obituary
DORSEN, Rita Mannes

Rita Mannes Dorsen, 88, my beloved mother and best friend, passed away peacefully on November 18, 2013 in Scottsdale, AZ. Rita "Mom" will be missed beyond measure. She was born in Baltimore, MD in 1925, an only child to Esther and Nathan G. Mannes. She graduated Western High School in 1943. Rita attended the University of Alabama later that same year. It turned out to be the best decision of her life. Not only did she receive her sociology degree in three years, her "best friend" Rhoda Dorsen Labowitz introduced her to her brother and future husband, Robert Dorsen, the love of her life whom she married on April 27, 1952. After their marriage, they settled in New York City, where Rita opened a very successful boutique in Manhattan called rita dorsen. In 1957, they had Nan, their only child. Rita happily left the professional world to devote her life to her daughter and husband. In 1961, the family moved to Bethesda, MD. Rita loved her role as wife and mother and supported Bob's passion of sailing, despite the fact that she was fearful of the water and didn't know how to swim. For years, Rita, the sun worshipper and Bob, the sailor, enjoyed Florida visits several time a year. They made Florida their permanent residence in 1981. Rita was happiest at home, but she and Bob travelled quite a bit over the years. In 1981, Rita and Bob moved to West Palm Beach, FL where they enjoyed many years together until Bob passed away in 1992. Rita remained in West Palm Beach until January 2013 when she moved to Scottsdale, AZ to be closer to her daughter Nan. Rita possessed an engaging sense of humor and a special gift of connecting with people. She derived great pleasure from helping others with interior design advice and fashion tips. Rita took great joy in the simple pleasures; getting her hair done every Friday, shopping and lunches out. In spite of her weakened condition, Rita was always grateful to everyone around her and continually expressed her love and appreciation. Rita is survived by her daughter, Nan Dorsen of Scottsdale, AZ. Services will be held in the Washington, D.C. area. A very special thank you to the staff at Maravilla in Scottsdale and for their incredible care. Memorial gifts can be made to or a simple act of unexpected kindness paid forward in memory of Rita's spirit. Arrangements by Sinai Mortuary of Arizona.
