BAUGH, Jr., Thomas Edward

72, of Boynton Beach, Florida has died after a courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, November 27, 2012. He was surrounded by his family throughout the Thanksgiving holiday. Tom attended Belmont Abbey and Ashley High Schools before graduating from Belmont Abbey College in 1962. He served as president of the Gastonia Jaycees and was named ?Distinguished Young Man of the Year? for his service. His father had held that identical distinction a generation before, making them the only father/son team then so honored by the Jaycees of America. While living in Gastonia, he also served as president of the Gaston County Mental Retardation Association; on boards of the local Optimist Club, Catholic Church and ; and as a Scout Master. Tom moved with his family to the Myrtle Beach, South Carolina area in 1973. Along with his business partner Les Morris, they developed condominiums and hotels along the South Carolina and North Carolina coasts. They also developed amusement parks, theme museums and golf courses in Pawleys Island, South Carolina and St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands. He was an integral part of bringing the Senior PGA Tour to Myrtle Beach through his involvement in Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday. He served also on the board of the Myrtle Beach Council of Organizations and on the Board of Directors for Anchor Bank. He served later as a founding director of Crescent Bank, known now as CresCom Bank. Tom enjoyed traveling, boating and most of all spending time with his family and friends. Tom and his wife attended St. Paul?s Episcopal Church of Delray Beach, Florida. Tom was born in Charlotte, North Carolina on May 15, 1940, the son of Thomas Edward Baugh and Edith Gallagher Baugh. He is survived by his wife of 32 years Pamela Reames Baugh, and children Thomas Edward Baugh III (Nick) of Dallas, Texas, Scott Conley Baugh (Barrie) of Charleston, South Carolina, and Lydia Baugh Hanna (David) of Charlotte, North Carolina. His grandchildren are Ellery Bronwyn Baugh, Alden Summers Baugh, Katherine Abigail Hanna and Thomas Elam Hanna. His siblings are Brenda Baugh Craig of Gastonia, North Carolina, Peggy Baugh Baker of Roxboro, North Carolina, Clelland Robert Baugh of Gun Barrel City, Texas, Richard Sutton Baugh of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and Mary Baugh Jacobs of Clermont, Florida. His stepchildren are John Sydney Divine IV of Garden City, South Carolina and Favor Elizabeth Divine of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina. Tom also has four step grandchildren. He was previously married for 18 years to Lane Rockett Baugh who predeceased him in 2011. A memorial service will be held at 12pm on Saturday, December 1 at the Quail Ridge Golf and Country Club in Boynton Beach, Florida.
