BUCKLEY, Virginia Smith

Virginia Smith Buckley of Palm Beach and New York City died Friday, March 7, 2014. She was 94. Born February 1, 1920, she was the daughter of William Harold Smith and Agnes Tindell Smith of London. Mrs. Buckley was one of six children. She married William Elmhirst Buckley on August 2, 1941 in Washington, D.C. They moved to Bronxville, NY, where they were members of the Bronxville Field Club, Siwanoy Golf Club and Lawrence Beach Club. She was active in various charities and served as President of the League of Service. In 1971, they moved to Palm Beach, where Mrs. Buckley continued her involvement with charities, including the Boys and Girls Club of Palm Beach County and served as gala chairman for seven years. She also volunteered with the American Heart Association, where she Chaired many of their fundraising events. Her beloved husband of sixty-seven years died December 17, 2008. Mrs. Buckley spent the last years of her life at Lourdes-Noreen McKeen in West Palm Beach. She is survived by a daughter, Carolyn E. Buckley of Palm Beach and New York; a son, William E. Buckley, Jr. of West Palm Beach; a sister, Joyce S. Rogers of Sarasota; and two grandchildren, Gregory Q. Meyer and wife Tricia and Trevor W. Buckley and wife Jennifer. A private service was held. Memorial donations may be made to the Boys & Girls Clubs of West Palm Beach, 800 North Point Parkway, Suite 204, West Palm Beach, FL 33407. Quattlebaum Funeral Home in West Palm Beach handled the arrangements.
