Wayne Wells of North Palm Beach and formerly of St. Louis, MO died peacefully after a long illness on December 23, 2013 at the age of 89 surrounded by family and friends. An avid Cardinals fan, Mr. Wells attended spring training games, keeping meticulous stats on his beloved team. Besides sports, he loved Iowa, the financial markets, long meals at good restaurants, music and the arts, travel by boat, his friends, and his family. Mr. Wells was born on a farm in Cantril, IA, to Josephine and Harold Wells, and served in the US Navy. He graduated from the University of Iowa and moved to New York City, where he quickly became a partner at Arthur Andersen & Co. Mr. Wells also worked in finance at Deering Milliken in Spartanburg, SC, at Mohawk Data Sciences, an early computer company, in New York City, General Dynamics in St. Louis and Alltype Fire Protection. He was active in volunteer organizations, especially with the Episcopal Church where he served on the Vestry at The Church of St. Michael & St. George and on the finance committee for the Episcopal Diocese of Missouri. Mr. Wells is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jean Burchell Wells, his brothers Dwight and Van, his children Jeffrey (Serena) of New Canaan, CT, Linda of New York City, NY Jennifer of Novato, CA, and David (Anne) of Darien, CT, along with eight grandchildren, nieces and nephews and countless friends. He was preceded in death by his brother Donald. A memorial service will be held at 11AM on Saturday January 11, 2014 at the Lost Tree Chapel, 11149 Turtle Beach Road, North Palm Beach, FL.
