ELWOOD J. HUGHES, Jr. Age 84, passed away June 9, 2010. He was born and raised in New York City. He proudly served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in Japan and was honorably discharged in 1946. After graduating from Manhattan College as a Civil Engineer in 1950, he became a Professional Licensed Engineer in 1958. Elwood was a Plant Engineer for Endo Labs and Dupont, building pharmaceutical plants in Long Island and Puerto Rico. He was voted Plant Engineer of the year in 1977. He retired in 1988. Elwood was a loving husband to his wife Carol for 61 years. He was a devoted father to his four children, Elwood, Kevin (wife Patricia), Patricia Walker (husband Jonathan), Nancy Thielmann (husband Robert). He was a proud and loving grandfather of Christopher and Eric Hughes, Morgan, Rachael and Emily Walker, Hannah and Spencer Thielmann. Memorial Services will be held at 12 Noon on Thursday, June 17 at the funeral home. Friends may visit an hour before the service. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity. Dorsey-E. The Manhattan College alumni community shares the grief, and is now praying for our fellow alumni and the family at this time. The Alumni Office has been informed. As well as the Jasper Jottings community that I personally can reach. We are all a little poorer now. "No man is an island, entire of itself ... any man's death diminishes me".
