Bertha Taylor Richards (Berte) died peacefully at Good Samaritan Hospital on July 18, 2014, attended by her husband of 61 years, William R. Richards of West Palm Beach, FL, her sons William R. Richards, Jr. and wife Sharon of Cary, NC, Brian L. Richards and wife Debbie of Cornelius, NC. She is also survived by her sister, Dorothy Levesque of Calgary Canada, her grandchildren Christina and Scott Burrell of Raleigh, NC, Elisa Richards of Atlanta, GA, Robert and Janine Richards of Raleigh, NC, and great grandson Liam Burrell of Raleigh, NC Berte was born in 1925 in Montreal, Canada to the late Cyril and Bessie Taylor. Cyril was a retiree of the Canadian National Railways. She completed high school and finishing school, spent a short time as a WREN in the Canadian Navy, and was a professional fashion model. She met William R. Richards (working in aviation engineering) after moving to Greenland, and they were married August 16, 1952 in West Palm Beach, FL. Her early years were spent as a devoted mother to William and Brian. She also spent countless hours in the promotion of charitable, cultural and educational institutions. Examples of her dedicated efforts include Northwood Institute, Palm Beach Junior College, the Mental Health Association of Palm Beach County, Stetson University, Opera Lyrica, the Palm Beach Ballet, the Florida Theater, Palm Beach County Diabetes Association, Salvation Army, the Norton Museum of Art, Society of the Four Arts, among many others. Her influence extended far beyond her own family as many people from all walks of life knew her. She was clearly a "people person" and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Friends may visit with the family between the hours of 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, July 22 at QUATTLEBAUM FUNERAL, CREMATION & EVENT CENTER at HILLCREST, 6411 Parker Ave, West Palm Beach, FL, 33405. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, July 23, at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 211 Trinity Place, West Palm Beach, FL, 33401. Interment will follow at the South Florida National Cemetery, Lake Worth, FL at 1:45 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Palm Beach County, 5300 East Avenue, West Palm Beach, FL, 33407.
