John J. TOLISANO Sr. Obituary

John J. Tolisano passed peacefully on August 1, 2014 in Boynton Beach, FL after 99 wonderful years on this earth. John was born on June 2, 1915 in Detroit, MI, where he lived for the first six years of his life. He is survived by his loving wife of more than 71 years, Yolanda and three children, JoAnne Ovanna and her husband, William of Louisburg, NC; John Tolisano, Jr. of Jupiter, FL; and Jim Tolisano of Willow, NY. He has 6 living grandchildren, 1 deceased grandchild, and 9 great-grandchildren. John is also survived by a brother, Joe Tolisano and wife Angela of Hartford, CT and is preceded in death by 5 brothers, Gennaro, Frank, Pete, Sam and Lindy. John spent his youth in Hartford, CT and lived there until joining the US Naval Reserve in 1939. He served as First Class Petty Officer, Combat Aircrewman, and plane captain with the Naval Air Force throughout WWII, including more than 2 years stationed on the Aleutian island of Attu off western Alaska. While attending automatic pilot school in Brooklyn, NY during these war years he met the love of his life Yolanda D'Ercole. John and Yolanda later settled in northern NJ where he worked with the US Postal Service from 1959 until his retirement in 1976. John was a member of the Disabled Veterans Post 73, and a life member of Lodge1770 of the B.P.O.E. He was also a life member of the US Postal Letter Carrier's Union Branch 38. John was a resident of Florida for more than 38 years, John had many joys in life, including travels with friends and family throughout the world. He and his wife were passionate dancers, and were renowned for their dancing skills up until his final days. The world will greatly miss his beautiful movements on the dance floor and through the lives of his family and many friends. A Visitation will be held from 2-4pm and 6-8pm Monday, August 4, 2014 at Boynton Memorial Chapel, 800 W. Boynton Beach Blvd., Boynton Beach. A Graveside Service will be held 9:45am Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at the South Florida National Cemetery, Lake Worth, Lane 1.
