BAILEY, Walter A.

Of Jupiter, Florida, passed away on Friday, August 22, 2014. Raised in Milo, Maine, Walt served with distinction as a Major (O-4) in the US Army during World War II and the Korean War. He retired in 1968 after 25 years of service. After retirement he made his home in South Florida. Walt was Administrator of the 45th Street Mental Health Center in West Palm Beach and Lake Hospital in Lake Worth. He later owned and operated General Office Equipment and worked with his family at Modern Venetian Blind in West Palm Beach. Walt was a kind and loving man who had a long and interesting life. After being born in a small town in downeast Maine he joined the Army and traveled throughout Europe and Asia, living for an extended time in Germany and Japan. After the Army, Walt devoted his life to his family and civilian work. He was deeply loved by his wife, children and grandchildren. Walt loved to make people laugh and always had a joke ready. Walt's passing leaves a huge hole in our lives; we will all miss him dearly. Walter is survived by his brother Bob Bailey (Lucy) of Orlando, Florida; sons Charles Bailey (Karen) and John Bailey; daughters Belle Bailey-Aherne (Keith) and Brooke Bailey (Nick); his granddaughters Jennifer Williams (Jon) and Denise Robinson; and three great-grandsons. He is preceded in death by his dear wife, Janice Hall Bailey; his sisters Grace and Betty and brothers Elwin, Charles, and Chester. Funeral Services will be held at 6:00 PM on Monday, August 25, 2014 at the Quattlebaum Funeral, Cremation & Event Center, 6411 Parker Ave, West Palm Beach, FL 33405. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Palm Beach County, 5300 East Avenue, West Palm Beach, FL 33407.
