Family-Placed Obituary

KENNETH HURD "B-Dad" March 28, 1920 - September 30, 2010 Kenneth (B-Dad) Hurd, age 90, died peacefully at home on September 30, 2010 surrounded by his children following a 6 year battle with cancer. Born in Danville, VA March 28, 1920 to Maggie and Benjamin Hurd, he was predeceased by the girl of his dreams, Gerri, his wife of 65 years and by his daughter Kimber. He is survived by an entire family that simply adored him, including seven of his eight children, Patrice, Judy, Tyna (Harry), Mark (Donna), Lori, (Larry), Toni (Mark) and Tracey (Danny). He also leaves behind 25 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, two brothers B.J. and Dick and his sister Marie. A family reunion on the 4th of July weekend was held with most all in attendance. He was the "Star". In 1945 it was his dream to marry Gerri (from Miami, FL) and sweep her off to Broadway as entertainers. World War II changed all that. As a sergeant in the Air Corps, his musical background landed him his own band in Trinidad entertaining the wounded soldiers. After 20 years in Miami, working in the food business and having eight children, he moved his family to Lake Worth as co-owner of the M & M Cafeteria on Lake Avenue until its closing. Most of his free time, 40 years, was devoted to the Holy Spirit Catholic Church choir, until this past year. Family was his ultimate joy, especially holidays and Sunday lunches. Best known for his "story telling", he will be so dearly missed. Visitation with his family will be Friday, October 8 from 6-9 PM in the funeral home chapel. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, October 9 at 11:00 AM at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Lantana. Burial will be at Palm Beach Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers his family suggests donations to Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1000 Lantana Road, Lantana, FL 33462. Funeral arrangements by Palm Beach Memorial Park and Cemetery, 3691 Seacrest Blvd., Lantana, FL 33462, (561) 586-1237.
