A 22-year-old soldier from Boynton Beach was killed Sunday while fighting in Afghanistan.
U.S. Army Private First Class Michael J. Metcalf died in Paktia, Afghanistan, when "enemy forces attacked their unit with an improvised explosive device," according to a statement released by the Department of Defense this afternoon.
Also killed in the assault was 1st Lt. Jonathan P. Walsh, 28, of Cobb, Ga. Both were stationed out of Fort Bragg, N.C. and were assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division.
Metcalf graduated from St. John's Northwestern Military Academy in Delafield, Wis.
