An Army soldier with Palm Beach County ties was killed Saturday morning
during a mortar attack in Iraq.|
Jimmy Lee Shelton, 21, who grew up in Fort Myers, died at about 5:30
a.m. Iraqi time Saturday. His mother, Belle Glade resident Donna Manger,
said he was sleeping in his bunker when the attack occurred.
"He was a brave person," Manger said. "He got along with everyone. He
was an all-around good person."
Manger, who works in the accounting department for the city of Belle
Glade, said her son e-mailed her at least once a week from Iraq.
The last time she saw him was this past summer, when he came for a
visit. Together, they drove down to the Keys.
"We had a blast," she said.
