Age 64, a life-long child care provider and long term resident of West Palm Beach died of lung cancer on January 3, 2013 in the Hospice Unit of Good Samaritan Hospital. The daughter of a Career Soldier and Homemaker, Ms. Williams was born in Goldsboro, NC and went to Wayne Country Public School. Although she grew up very poor her early family life was filled love and joy. At fourteen she moved to Philadelphia to live with an older cousin. It was there she started working for the Cox family and became a "life-long member of the family" according to Dr. James Cox, father of the five children Ms. Williams helped to raise. Christine Cox, the youngest of the children, describes Ms. Williams as "Carol was like my second mother. She was someone I relied on and trusted and passed on to me the love for soul music and laughter. She always had a smile on her face and had the most positive attitude." Eric Cox, another of the Cox children, says, "One of my earliest childhood memories is of Carol singing a lullaby to me and calling me her Sweet Boo. She made the best Fried Chicken on the planet and I loved watching her make it in the kitchen as we laughed away at things." After working for the Philadelphia Cox Family for 28 years, she moved to Florida to manage the household of the oldest Cox's child Linda. She was member of the Cox Wolfgram family for over twenty years, helping to raise Bob and Linda's 2 children, Christopher and Elizabeth, who like their aunt Christine, viewed Carol as a second mother. Dr. Linda Cox, an allergist /immunologist in Ft. Lauderdale, says, we have been so blessed to have this wonderful, caring person as part of our life and she will be greatly missed. Beyond her life work and close association with the Cox family, she was loved by many and had friends all up and down the east coast from Pennsylvania to North Carolina to Florida. She had a big heart, warm smile and an infectious personality. Her daughter sums up who Carol was as "always loving and giving the best of everything." She is survived by her daughter, Debra Benton, two grandchildren: Sheree Williams and Jamall Elliott, great grandchildren: Gamere Culver, Jaylem Elliott and Jamerson Elliott and her brother, Walter S. Williams Services will be held in Thursday, January 10 from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM at Northwood Funeral Home & Crematory, 5608 Broadway, West Palm Beach, FL 33407 There will be another service in North Carolina; however the date has not been set In lieu of flowers donations can be made in her honor to Hospice of Palm Beach, Hospice of Palm Beach County Foundation, 5300 East Avenue, West Palm Beach, FL 33407.
