Doris MOODY Obituary

MOODY, Doris W.

To express condolences and/or make donations: Visit PalmBeachPost.com/obituaries

Friends and family are mourning the passing of Doris W. Moody, faithful wife and mother. Mrs. Moody was set free from all pain and suffering on Tuesday morning here in West Palm Beach. Doris Wade Moody attended public schools in Ft. Worth, TX, and entered Baylor University, where she graduated in 1949. On July 4, 1949 she married Jess Moody, and they began their lives in ministry together. Jess and Doris had over 63 years of marital bliss together. During her life in serving the Lord, both she and Jess were involved in the founding of the Youth for Christ movement in the late 1940's. In 1956, Jess Moody was called as the pastor of the First Baptist Church of Owensboro, KY where Doris served as singles director. In 1961, God called the Moody family to serve at the First Baptist Church of West Palm Beach, where she served as homemaker, pastor's wife and Sunday school teacher of single adults and the women's bible study class. Doris Moody was integral to the founding and formulation of Palm Beach Atlantic College (now University). She was the first Dean of Women, and her organizational skills were put to the test in the founding of the college. Her crowning achievement (outside of being a wonderful wife and mother) was originating the idea of 'Workship' for all PBA students, which mandates that every student must contribute a minimum number of hours in community service per semester. To date, over the last 45 years, PBA students have served over 2.5 million hours of 'Workship' community service throughout the Palm Beaches and around the world. She is survived by her loving husband, Dr. Jess C. Moody, former pastor of the First Baptist Church of West Palm Beach and the founder and first president of Palm Beach Atlantic University. She is also survived by her two children, Patrick Moody (wife, Amy) of Palm Beach Gardens, and Martha Moody of Santa Fe, NM. Mrs. Moody had three grandchildren, Christopher Stephen Moody (Washington, DC), Sean Adam Moody (Palm Beach Gardens) and Jessica Amelia Moody (Palm Beach Gardens). Services will be held on Monday, February 18 at 11:00 AM at the First Baptist Church of West Palm Beach, with Dr. Jimmy Scroggins officiating. In lieu of flowers, the Moody family requests that donations be given in Mrs. Moody's name to the Palm Beach Atlantic Alumni Association. I loved my friend Doris. Proverbs 31 was written with her in mind and she lived up to the requirements. We spent many hours together in California and driving to Glorietta. Doris was a true friend to me;we shared secrets and laughter; joy and sorrow; but today I have a vision of a crowd of family and friends rejoicing because she has made heaven's reunion a happy one. Jessie, Chuck, D.K.&Merle, Bennie Mae, Martiel,Tress....she meant to world to so many of us and we will miss her. Love, Elnora & O.D.

During all my time at FBC in the '60's and early
'70's...building a new sanctuary, the Chapel by the Lake and Palm Beach Atlantic, plus the greatest youth group any one could want, Jess and Doris Moody were always the guiding stars. I remember Doris with a smile on her face and that cute Texan accent...what a lady!

Jess and Doris Moody were the heart and soul of Palm Beach Atlantic College. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Jess, Pat, and Martha, and their families, and we thank you, Doris Moody, for all the love, care, and support you gave to so many of us in the early years of PBA.

We are so thankful that our daughter is a student at PBA, and so much of our thanks should be directed to Dr. & Mrs. Moody! Truly they were visionaries who followed God's leading. It is because of their leadership as well as their servant's hearts that PBA has become the excellent school that it is today. What a great team they made -- together they have impacted thousands of lives!

Our prayers and sympathies are with the Moody family, and yet through your tears, I am sure your hearts are rejoicing to know that Mrs. Moody is now in the presence of her Lord & Savior. I can imagine she was greeted with the words, "Well done, thou good and faithful servant!"

With our loving sympathy, prayers, and thanks to the Moody family,

Pastor Dick Carroll Class of 1981

Our prayers are with the Moody family. Workship was a big part of why I chose to go to Palm Beach Atlantic in 1978. It was one of my most memorable experiences while there. Her idea continues to minister around the world as part of her legacy.

As one of Mrs. Moody's first PBA girls in 1968 I loved her wisdom and patience. She was kind and caring of all of us and was such a lady in teaching us. As a member of the Founder's Class of 1972, I know heaven is better with her presence and I pray for Dr. Moody, Patrick and Martha as they live with her loss.
