Dr. Hyman Jacob Roberts' life peacefully ended on February 24, 2013, surrounded by his family at his home in West Palm Beach, Florida. Carol, his wife of 59 years and the love of his life, survives him. Also surviving him are his children - Dr. David Roberts and wife Veronika, Dr. Jonathan Roberts and wife Amy, Dr. Mark Roberts and fiance Karen Goldfarb, Rabbi Stephen Roberts and husband Ron Hellman, Scott Roberts and wife Emily, and daughter Pamela Rembaum and husband Jeff - and sister, Esther Sokol. His brother, Harry, predeceased him. He also left behind 11 grandchildren: Brandon, Simone, Arielle, Emily, Jillian, Joshua, Mark, Ben, Katie, Julia and Jenna. Hyman, known as Hy, was born in Boston, Massachusetts, on May 29, 1924. He attended Tufts College and graduated cum laude from Tufts University Medical School in 1947. Hy served in the United States Navy during the Korean War as the senior medical officer of Submarine Squadron 12 in the Pacific and Key West, Florida. Hy and Carol settled in West Palm Beach in 1955 where they raised their six children. Hy was deeply involved with the local Jewish community. He was a member of Temple Beth El for over 50 years and an early president of the Jewish Community Day School (known today as the Arthur I Meyer Jewish Academy). Hy practiced as a Board-certified internist and endocrinologist for 50 years. He was on the medical staff of the Good Samaritan Hospital and St. Mary's Hospital. He also directed the Palm Beach Institute for Medical Research from 1964 to 2012 and served as a volunteer at the Heart Clinic for three decades. As an author of 27 books and 280 original articles and letters, writing was Hy's passion. Hy was involved in numerous professional organizations and received many professional honors including being named as one of "The Best Doctors in the U.S.". Hy's community and philanthropic activities were also numerous including the Rotary International membership for 55 years. He was especially proud of being a Paul Harris Fellow presented to him from the Palm Beach Rotary Club. Hy was wealthy beyond description with family and friends. A "healer to all", Hy was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He never missed an opportunity to be with his family that he loved so dearly.
