(1935 - 2013) Dr. Sharad Karkhanis, left this world for the Heavenly Adobe on early morning of March 28, 2013 at West Boca Medical Center in Boca Raton, FL from respiratory and heart complications. Dr. Karkhanis was born in a village in India near Mumbai and came to United States in 1963 with just a few dollars in his pocket. He studied hard, worked hard and earned his PhD in the land of opportunity and became very successful in a short time. He worked for the City University of New York for over 35 years and he was Professor of Political Science and Libraries since 1974. Presently, he was the Professor Emeritus for the City University. He wrote several books including "Indian Politics and the Role of the Press", "Cuban Missile Crisis" and "Jewish Heritage in America: A Bibliography" to name a few. He was honored by the Democracy Project as the Educator of the Year in 2008. He has achieved many acclaimed honors and has been recognized for many political papers. He was the Editor in Chief of an online newsletter called "The Patriot Returns", which was read by thousands in the political and academic fields. He was divorced and had no children. He was based in Brooklyn, NY but enjoyed his winters in Boca Raton, FL. He was energetic, upbeat, a veracious reader; enjoyed good company and had a flair for gourmet food. He has several nephews and nieces in the United States, closest being his nephew, Mohan, in Orlando, FL. Mohan may be contacted by email: sdk1935@yahoo.com. He was cremated per Hindu rites.
