William R. "Bill" Martin, 62, of Boynton Beach, Florida, passed peacefully on Sunday, May 19, 2013, surrounded by family. He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered. Bill is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Diane; mother Donna and father Jackson; brother Bruce; sister Marlene; furry friends Buddy and Suzy; and numerous nieces and nephews. Bill was a respected member of the South Florida banking industry for 40 years, the last 25 at the executive level. He was the President of two local banks, Palm Beach County Bank and Palm Beach Community Bank. Bill was a prominent member of the local community. He volunteered his time for numerous charitable and non-profit agencies, including President of the Boynton Beach Chamber of Commerce, member of the Board of Directors of the Boynton Beach YMCA, Florida Bankers Association, Delray Jaycees, United Way and the Community Chest fund raising campaigns, among numerous others. Bill was born in Shadyside, Ohio on February 3, 1951. He was a graduate of Shadyside High School and Kent State University, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Finance, Summa Cum Laude. He also completed the Graduate Banking program at the University of Wisconsin in 1985. Bill enjoyed spending time with Diane and his family at home and in the Smoky Mountains. He enjoyed golfing and was an avid fan of NASCAR, Ohio State football and the Pittsburgh Steelers. . The family has also established a scholarship fund at Bill's high school. Donations may be sent to the Shadyside Alumni Association Merit Scholarship Fund, in memory of Bill Martin, P.O. Box 176, Shadyside, OH 43947. A celebration of Bill's life will be held 5pm Friday, May 24, 2013 at Boynton Memorial Chapel, 800 W. Boynton Beach Blvd., Boynton Beach.
