LAMBERMONT, Elizabeth "Betty"

Age 80 of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, passed away on Sunday, August 18, 2013 at Kindred Hospital. She was born July 26, 1933 in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, the daughter of Leendert Adrianus Johannes van Erkelens and Elizabeth Booden van Erkelens. She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years Hendrik "Hank" Lambermont and daughter April Lambermont Nakos. Betty was to compete in the 1956 Olympics in Melbourne, Australia for the Netherlands swim team, however Holland boycotted the XVI games. She made three valiant attempts to swim the English Channel. Under the auspices of the Netherlands Dairy Bureau, she was one of only four girls chosen to travel Europe promoting the Dutch cheese industry. She attended school in Rotterdam before joining the Royal Dutch Air Force in 1959. Married July 27, 1960, Hank and Betty travelled the world together. Betty was the first to swim Lake McConaughy in Nebraska in 1965, before heading to Maine and becoming a wonderful mother. The family enjoyed 10 years in Phoenix Arizona before heading to the West Indies. After 5 years in Barbados the family settled in South Florida and made it home. A family will receive friends at Howard-Price Funeral Home on Thursday, August 22, 2013 from 5:00pm until 8:00pm Donations in Betty's honor can be made to the Dolphin Research Center in Marathon Florida. https://dolphins.org/general_donation
