Hartley STEINSNYDER, D.O., FACOS Obituary

Hartley (Harts) 88, passed Tuesday February 18, 2014, Harts was the first of three sons of son of Barnett (Barney) Steinsnyder, and Rose Rosoff Steinsnyder. He graduated from Temple University with a B. A. degree, then a M.Sc. (Urologic Surgery) and D.O. degree from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM), completing Internship and Residency programs in General and Urologic Surgery. He stayed on to teach for many years while serving as Urologic Surgeon and Professor at PCOM and North Center Hospitals in Philadelphia and "covering" Osteopathic hospitals in Harrisburg and Allentown, Pennsylvania. He was a founder of Tri-County hospital in Springfield, PA. Hartley was honored by being given the title of Fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons (FACOS) and having been the Chairman of the Urologic Section of the College of Osteopathic Surgeons. He was married, until her death in July 2013, to Bette M. Berkstresser R.N., graduate of the PCOM School of Nursing, head of the Newborn Nursery Department. Hartley and his two brothers were co-founders of a photography business, "Harwyn Photo Studio", which morphed into "Harwyn Medical Photographers" producing color slide transparencies for the teaching of many subjects. This replaced the need for carbon arc projectors for teaching with microscopic glass slides. Harwyn slides medical, dental and undergraduate universities world-wide. Hartley was an avid fisherman and enjoyed being on the water. He is survived by his son, Jeffrey of Trinity, FL, brothers Wynne from Miami, FL, and Mike in San Diego, CA

Doc Steinsnyder was a true friend of mine, and will always remain in my thoughts. He was a brilliant man with a good sense of humor, and a big heart. It came in handy having a surgeon onboard for our many fishing adventures as well! Doc will be missed.

"Doc" was one of the kindest gentleman I have ever known. I spent many days on the Ocean with "Doc", both with the Capt Bob and on his own boat, the "Big Nudge". Doc had a knack for catching big fish!
Over the years, Doc and his wife used to take my father, myself and my 2 brothers out to lunch many times at our favorite Pizza eatery "Cardello" in North Palm Beach/Lake Park.

Me and my Family will miss Doc!
He was an excellent man!
My prayers go out to the family...
