Thomas GREENBAUM Obituary

GREENBAUM, Thomas Edwin

58, a loving father of two and active resident of Palm Beach, Florida, passed away on Friday, July 11, 2014. Tom was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on May 31, 1956. After graduating from the University School in Shaker Heights, Ohio, Tom attended Emory University where he graduated number one in his class from the School of Business in 1978 and then went on to receive his MBA from NYU. Tom was admitted into the two-year Executive Training Program at Merrill Lynch in New York City. Thereafter, Tom moved to Atlanta where he raised his two children, was very active in the Atlanta community, and in a few short years became a top stockbroker at Merrill Lynch. Years later, Tom moved to Morgan Stanley as a Senior Vice President where he was ranked as one of the top financial advisors in the nation. He continued with a high level of excellence in his position until he retired at the age of 50. After retirement, Tom moved to Palm Beach, Florida where he became very involved in the local community, including the Alpert Jewish Family and Children's Service, the South Florida Science Center and Aquarium, the Palm Beach Film and Television Institute, the town's Department of Planning, Zoning & Building and he served on the board of WXEL PBS for the Palm Beaches. Tom was an outstanding pianist with the talent to improvise and play music by ear. He was also a talented athlete with a passion for golf and tennis. He was a member of the Banyan Golf Club and a former member of the Palm Beach Country Club. Tom was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Greenbaum and sister, Linda Beth Greenbaum. He is survived by his father Lionel Greenbaum, stepmother Carol Greenbaum, two daughters, Malinda Greenbaum and Caroline Greenbaum, his brother, Steven Greenbaum, sister-in-law Deborah Greenbaum and nephews John Ryan Greenbaum and Andrew Greenbaum. Tom loved people and prided himself on generosity and humility. He dedicated his life to his children and was truly unique in every way. He will be missed by many. A family visitation will be held on Monday, July 14th at 10:00am on the second floor of Temple Israel in West Palm Beach followed by a memorial service at 11:00am in the sanctuary. A funeral procession will follow to Star of David Cemetery of the Palm Beaches in West Palm Beach. The family plans to have only a private visitation thereafter. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Tom's memory may be made to Hospice of Palm Beach County, WXEL PBS for the Palm Beaches, Alpert Jewish Family and Children Service, South Florida Science Center and Aquarium, or Temple Israel

I met Tom only a few times. He was witty, kind, and very, very smart. Always fun to be around Tom. So sad that he died so young. He had so much to offer to friends, family, community. He thought of others before he though of himself. The nicest of guys. Much missed by even a casual friend like me. He was one of a kind. Unique. Al Kuhn

I still miss you unabatedly. Not a day goes by that I don't think of you. Eve cried yesterday in the car and out of the blue said, "Mommy, I really miss Tom." Your magnanimous spirit and loving kindness will live on in our hearts forever.

Malinda, Caroline and Jim, Lionel and Carol, Steve and Deborah. Let us all try to move on with Tom in our hearts. He filled the role of a best friend so well. He stepped in after my brother passed and watched out for me. I will miss him forever and then some. For me and mom he was family. Love Lauren & Dolores.

I had the good fortune of working for Tom for several years in Atlanta. Every day in the office was an adventure with our dashing leader. He was kind and witty, charmingly brilliant, and generous beyond compare. To work for Tom was to become part of his family, a bond not broken by time or distance. My husband and I loved Tom and remain grateful for his influence in our life. Our deepest condolences to the Greenbaum family.

Dear Carol & Lionel, Joe & I send our prayers & good thoughts. I spent time in your home helping with your grandchildren so long ago & saw the many pictures of family events. Those are special memories to cherish. Maybe my Mom, Mary Rose, can whip up some Italian food or sing to Tom's piano accompaniment. They will meet us some day. Many Blessings, Jo-Ann Di Lorenzo

Dear Malinda, Caroline, Steve, Lionel and Carol, We were so sorry to hear of Tom's passing. We have many fond memories of him, on the golf course, out to dinner at the club and then back at the house with him on the piano. He was one of the most generous people we knew. In fact, Jim was always afraid to compliment him about what he was wearing, because Tom would give it to him. He literally would give you the shirt off his back.

You are in our thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.

My thoughts and prayers are with you in your time of grief. May your memories bring you comfort. I have great memories of the time I spent with Tom. He could always make us laugh. Some special memories of mine are the time Steve, Jon, Doug and I spent with time such as playing Cards with Tom, going to the race track, and the many memories we had at University School some of which I choose not to document. Also our reunions at weddings our kids special events. We had many humorous time together such as our boat trip through the Erie canal, triple dating at senior prom and some trips to the race track. More recently some enjoyable rounds of golf which is a game Tom loved playing. I am terribly saddened my his early passing offer my deepest condolences. I wish I could be there to share my memories and sympathies in person with you at this time

My dear old(est) friend.....you have been a part of my llife for as long as I can remember, way too many good times to recount. Day camps, card games, frat houses, golf courses, casinos and every stop inbetween have generated a lifetime of incredible memories for me.

I am heartbroken at the loss of a wonderful man, a loving father and one of the most talented people I have ever known.

You have been and will forever be an important and irreplacable part of my life - one of a kind and I will miss you deeply.

We are just way too young for this.....rest well my friend and find the comfort you seek and the peace you deserve.

I'll see you in the tee box on Cloud 9.....

Love,

Doug

Tommy, while many sing their own praises and want their names publicized in the paper for their good works, the majority of your charitable giving was done anonymously. Few people know the extent to which you contributed to the well-being of others, with no thought of recompense, recognition or honor on your part. You have touched the lives of many and all those who have had the privilege of knowing you are better off for having you in their lives. Your generous spirit, loving kindness, and incredible acts of charity will live on in people's hearts and minds for years to come
