Mary STREIT Obituary
Mary Whitford Streit, 97, of Jupiter, FL, and formerly of Bellmore, NY, died on July 13, 2016 at Hospice of Palm Beach County. A graduate of Jamaica High School, NY, Mary received her B.A. in French from Swarthmore College where she was a Phi Beta Kappa scholar. She earned an M.A. from Columbia University and did further graduate work at UCLA. During World War II, Mary worked for the French government in the US, The Voice of America, and at Salem Academy, NC. Mary taught high school French and Spanish on Long Island for 20 years and was the first president of the Levittown, NY, chapter of the American Association of University Women. Together with her husband of 72 years, Victor Streit, Mary traveled extensively in retirement, visiting over 100 countries around the world. The couple also established a secondary school, Wesley College, in Grenada, W.I., under the auspices of the Board of Global Ministries of the Methodist Church. Mary and Vic moved to Little Club in Tequesta in 1983, and to Allegro in Jupiter in 2012. Surviving family includes sons, Robert (Rebecca), Andrew, Daniel (Lisa), Tom (Chris), and a daughter, Lydia; a sister, Sarah Morgan; and ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Tequesta, 482 Tequesta Drive, Tequesta at 10:30AM on Saturday, July 16. In lieu of flowers please make contributions to UNICEF.

Lord I just want to thank you for the beautiful gift of Mrs.Mary Whitford-Streit,through her I was able to come across such marvelous & wonderful friends of Robert,Daniel,Lydia.May she rest in Paradise with Our Heavenly Father.To her children I give my deepest condelonces.God bless all of you.

I always enjoyed Aunt Mary's good humor and great ideas. She was the driving force behind many good times with our cousins in Brookfield! I appreciated and admired her dedication to the Whitford family legacy and will treasure my warm memories of her.
