OWENS, Theodore Calvin "Ted" Staunton, VA---Theodore Calvin "Ted" Owens, 93, widower of Betty Virginia (Jackson) Owens passed away Wednesday, July 26, 2017 in Augusta Health in Fishersville. Mr. Owens was born on October 25, 1923 in Bethesda, Maryland, a son of the late Thomas "Calvin" and Mildred (Morrison) Owens. Ted graduated from Admiral Farragut Academy, was a proud veteran of the United States Navy and he attended the University of Maryland. There he met the love of his life and after a three month courtship they were married, raised two daughters and had a wonderful and fulfilling life. As a young man, Ted worked in construction with his father and later formed Congressional Lumber Company with a partner. After retirement, he worked as a Building Inspector for Montgomery County, Maryland. Ted and Betty finally retired to Highland Beach, Florida where they spent many happy years. Ted enjoyed his life to the fullest and wanted his obituary to read: "I was born, I lived, it was great and I died!" In addition to his parents and his wife, the love of his life, Mr. Owens was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Dana Lynn (Owens) Underwood of Hypoluxo, Florida; and a sister, Dorothy (Owens) Estes. Surviving is a wonderful daughter and son-in-law, Melissa (Owens) and her husband, Dr. Robert A. Ruth of Staunton; and a special son-in-law, John R. Underwood of Hypoluxo, Florida. A Graveside service will be held at Mountain View Cemetery in Marriottsville, Maryland at a later date. It is suggested those desiring make memorial contributions to the Destiny for Dogs, 326 Macy Street, West Palm Beach, Florida 33405. A charity dedicated to assisting seniors in keeping their dogs at home". Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton, is in charge of his arrangements.
