Hazel McBride Obituary

Hazel McBride, aged 98, passed away peacefully on November 19th in Paradise, California with her daughter Reba by her side.
Hazel was born July 13, 1915 in Western, Nebraska to Charles Hawk and Florence Doane Hawk. Her mother died when she was very young, so Hazel had a fairly independent childhood. She got her RN at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, Nebraska in 1936 and headed out west. There she practiced nursing in various capacities until 1942 when she was smitten by a dashing young salesman named Howard Dale McBride whom she later married and with whom she raised three children: Barbara, Reba and Doug. Hazel was a night nurse while the children were growing up so she could share fully in their lives. She is remembered fondly at Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena where she helped many young nurses get their wings.
After the children were grown, Howard and Hazel pulled up stakes and moved to Paradise where Hazel continued nursing at Feather River Hospital. After her retirement, never one to rest, Hazel volunteered as a driver for Paradise Hospice for many years.
Hazel was predeceased by her parents, Charles and Florence Hawk, her stepmother, Erma Hawk, her brothers, Kenneth Hawk and Wayne Hawk, sister, Ruth Drake, husband, Howard Dale McBride, and daughter, Barbara McBride Schuck. She is survived by her daughter, Reba McBride Tartar (Nick) and son, Doug McBride (Anne). She is also survived by five grandchildren: Margaret, Cathie, Tracey, Amie and Miko, and fourteen great grandchildren: Jonathon, Caitie, Julia, Tanya, Jacob, Natalie, Gabriel, Mateo, Rachel, Lillie, Angela, David, Annika and Leilani. She is also survived by an extensive network of family and friends.
Hazel will always be remembered for her capacity, philosophy, and amazing spirit.
At her request, no services will be held. Donations can be made in her name to Paradise Ridge Senior Center, 877 Nunneley Rd, Paradise, CA 95969.
