Bill Chester Ames was born March 25, 1918 to Chester R. and Sonnomia P. Ames in Provo, UT. Bill attended UCLA and graduated with a degree in Physics. He joined the Navy at a young age and served 12 years of active duty after which he entered the Naval Reserve, where he attained the rank of Captain. He served a total of 30 years. He was in England serving with the Embassy Staff teaching the newest development in radar technology when the USA entered into WWII. He saw a great deal of wartime Naval action in the English Channel before he was returned to the USA. Bill worked as a civilian for the Navy at Point Mugu, CA as Head of the Communications Dept. Later he worked for the US Air Force as a civilian engineer and finally for the US Army as an Aerospace Engineer with the Ballistic Missile Division in Huntsville, AL and Kwajalein Missile Range, in the Marshall Islands.
After retirement in 1981, Bill and his wife, Corinne, settled in Paradise where they ran a small, family owned, home based business.
Bill is survived by his wife of 38 years, Corinne, sister Arbra Corriea of Grants Pass, OR, daughter Adena Gay of Prescott, AZ, sons Walter Ames of Tokyo, Japan,Douglas Ames of Susanville, CA and Robert Mount of Huntsville, AL, daughter Leslie Frieder of Bethesda, MD, thirteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, August 30 at 2:00pm at the the Chapel of the Pines.
