Hazel Marie Reed was born June 2, 1925 in Toledo, WA to Wallace and Ina Buswell in the house that her parents built. She was the youngest of six children. Farm life was her education where she learned that the blessings of a devoted family circle were many, and that hard work was rewarding. She married her high school sweetheart, John Beyers, in 1944: they had 3 children, Lynne, Philip, and Scott. She has 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Hazel had a great love of life, of her family and of her country. She was constantly participated in community activities. Some of her favorite memories included playing golf and traveling around the world.
Haze was instrumental in founding the Paradise Republican Women, the Ladies of the Paradise Elks, and The Women's Golf Club at Lava Creek serving numerous leadership roles in each. She often hosted cocktail parties and dinners in support of her values and local political leaders.
Hazel considered each friend a treasure. She had a caring soul and a warm heart. She passed away peacefully in Chico on November 12, 2013 with family around her. We know she will be missed by many.
