Joseph Thomas Younger Sr.(1920 - 2013)

JOSEPH THOMAS YOUNGER SR. Joseph Thomas Younger Sr. passed away on Friday, December 20th, 2013 at his Paradise home with family at the age of 93. He was born to the late Robert Thomas Younger and Corinne Inez Vallette on April 22, 1920 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Joseph graduated from Martin Behrman High School in New Orleans and attended Long Beach City College in Long Beach, Ca. Joseph served with the US Army during WWII for 18 months from 1946-47 and was honorably discharged at the rank of Sargent. He was a Naval Ship Design Engineer by trade, a survivor of Pearl Harbor and he retired as a civil servant from the US Navy after 33.5 years of service. During his lifetime he reared six children, enjoyed gardening, reading, cooking, and shooting billiards. He was always working around his home and in his yard. He said work was the secret to his health. Joe was an amazing friend to all who knew him, had a nickname for everyone, was ready and willing to help anyone at all times. He always made others smile and laugh; it brought him joy to make others happy. He was a large part of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren's lives here on the Ridge and well known throughout the community. His most frequent phrase was "That's perfect" about anything and everything. Joseph is survived by his wife of 34 years, Jinny of Paradise, his six children: Joe Jr., Bob, Maureen, Annice, Jane, & Patt, three step-children: Buddy, Bobbi, & Nancy, as well as an abundance of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great- grandchildren. He will be greatly missed and dearly remembered. A graveside memorial is planned for 1pm Friday Dec. 27th, 2013 @ Magalia Cemetery, 6764 Magalia Cemetery Road, Magalia, CA 95969.
