Ritta Gerspacher passed away on October 23, 2013 in the presence of her family. She was born on June 11, 1927 in Lucerne, Switzerland. She immigrated to the United States shortly after WWII to Salem, Oregon where she worked on a gladiolus farm.
She met and married Matthew Gerspacher in Salem and they were married for 55 years. She was a homemaker who raised 3 sons. Her many hobbies included bowling, painting, quilting, knitting, baking and the occasional day trip with friends to gamble in Reno.
Throughout her life, she was an active member of the Catholic Church. At points in her life, she was a greeter, Reader, Eucharistic Minister, taught RCIA, member of the Bereavement Committee, Ladies Guild, Saint Vincent De Paul Society, and arranged flowers for the alter.
Ritta was preceded in death by her husband Matt earlier this year. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be missed by many. She is survived by her children and their spouses: Matthew (Rosalind), Michael, Marcus, her grandchildren Anthony, Matthew, Christopher, Amber, Nicole, and Heather. She is also survived by 14 nephews and nieces, 12 grandnephews/nieces and 2 family cats.
A rosary and vigil will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 28, 2013 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Paradise. A memorial mass will follow the vigil at 3:00 p.m. with a reception in the church hall.
